Cheating on Twitter

I Love Twitter, But . . .

Dear Twitter,

We’ve been together for awhile now, and frankly, it’s time for a chat.

Don’t be nervous. I love you. You’re amazing and I’m not just saying that to make you feel good.

You turned what was an entirely solitary experience–building a writing career–and transformed it into something collaborative.  Whenever I feel like tuning into your timeline, you bring me BURSTS of conversation about story structure, point of view, characterization, and so much more. You let me know when certain literary journals are running a contest or looking for submissions. You’ve been great. I mean it.

Twitter, I Need More Than You.

Here’s the problem, Twitter. I’m feeling the need for a little something-something on the side. Your punchy little tweets are constantly sending me to blogs. And now, after YEARS of saying I’d never have one of my own,  I’m obsessed with the idea. Really, if you think about it, you drove me to look for more. It’s your fault.

Anyway, it’s not exactly like you only had eyes for me. Let’s be honest, you’re the Don Draper in this relationship. So if I’m Betty I guess that makes this blog that younger man Betty kissed at the stables. Only better.  (That guy was weird).

Twitter + Word Press . . . I’ll be juggling the two of you. Facebook? sigh Sometimes it’s like I don’t even know you anymore.

Love, Nina

  1. It is impossible to hurt twitter’s feelings. It’s attention span is just too short. I’ve personally found that twitter and blogs complement each other very well. Because I know I can have some sort of presence, and announce posts, I don’t have to post all time time for fear of losing readers.

  2. You are so cute! And funny! Congrats on taking the leap to bloghood. Now, I’m off to go tell Twitter all about your infidelity (because I’m seeing Twitter casually on the side myself). I wouldn’t worry too much, it seems to be fairly open to that sort of a relationship! 🙂

  3. If this first post is any indication of what’s to come, I’m in! Hooked already. Nina, you’re such a gifted writer and I’m excited that you’ll be sharing more of your work with us.

  4. It takes a lot of energy to remain in the middle – so go for the edge every now and then…as your writing does so well.

  5. Loved the first post, Nina!!! And loved the little blurb under your picture, especially the “…trying to make my mini van look hot.” Too funny!!!

    I’m so happy you’re doing this 🙂

  6. Nina, I’m so glad you did it! I am laughing just reading your first post, I love your writing. I am always impressed and inspired by your work! Looking forward to reading more.

  7. Don’t even know Facebook anymore??? I am heartbroken!!! And to think I fell in love with Ivy Stein!!! Love you:)

  8. Nina-
You are hysterical! I’m a big fan of your writing & will definitely follow your blog. Congrats on your infedelity!

  9. So now when I see you writing at Caribou I might have a clue what it is about – Congrats and enjoy your time on this blog –

  10. Vickie! Ha! You’re hysterical! 🙂

And Linda, if I’m putzing around with the blog every time you see me at Caribou please knock me upside the head. The book still comes first!

  11. Welcome to blogging and twitter, and everything else. I hope you fall in love with it, like I did.

It takes a quiet person, and allows them to show that they do have a personality. Hey, we’re quiet b/c we’re always thinking!

    Pleasure to meet you.

  12. Nina, I think you have too many fans, which is why you need to take your blackberry to bed to keep up. I am just happy that you have embraced technology so that we all can benefit and get a peek at what used to be hidden in your private journal. I thoroughly enjoy reading what you write – keep it coming!
