Pithy Movie Reviews 2013 and 2014

2013 MOVIES

1. Gnomeo and Juliet

Yes, this was my first movie of 2013. It was terrible. There are no words. I just can’t.

2. This is 40

Loved it. Though it was a bit more crass than necessary.

3. Silver Linings Playbook

Really really liked it. Highly recommend. Jennifer Lawrence was incredible. Of course Bradley Cooper was, too.

4. Monsters University

Laughed aloud numerous times. My kids loved the movie!

5. The Anna Nicole Smith Story

Couldn’t look away. And all the commercials during the movie started me on a Lifetime Movie Network binge, as you will see below.

6. The Perfect Neighbor

Movie starts with a woman who kills the married man who will not leave his wife for her. She moves to a new town and falls in love with the married neighbor. Drama ensues.

7. The Perfect Teacher

High school girl falls in love with her teacher. Girl does crazy things to get his attention. Drama ensues.

8. Blue Lagoon: The Awakening

Another Lifetime movie that I assume was on another network at some point. I loved the original Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields. This one . . . was on Lifetime.

9. The Other Woman

This is the movie version of a book I loved a few years ago by Ayelet Walman called Love and Other Impossible Pursuits. It stars Natalie Portman. I thought the movie stay extremely faithful to the book. Maybe even too much. It felt more like a play, then a movie, but I love the story and characters so I didn’t mind.

10. Frozen

Very cute. Loved having Idina Menzel voice one of the characters. Not as scary as other Disney cartoons can be for very little kids.

11. Catching Fire

Perfect. Just like the book.

2014 MOVIES

1. Flowers in the Attic (remake on Lifetime)

Terrible.

2. The Gabby Douglas Story (Lifetime)

Excellent! My kids loved it, and I loved the true message of the benefit of hard work.

3. He Just Not That Into You

I hate to think that there is any woman in the world who acts as desperate as Genifer Goodwin’s character.

4. The Muppet Movie Sequel

Just bad.
