As I may have mentioned (many times), I went on a women’s trip to Israel in October. It was an absolutely incredible experience—my fifth trip to Israel and without a doubt the most powerful. I’ve been home for almost three weeks, and I’m still slowly processing what made this trip so special. Some of my thoughts are captured in my post this week for Kveller.com, but there is more to come that may slip out in bits and pieces through my writing.
There’s no way for me to avoid it! I went on a long trip without my kids and without my husband for goodness sake! I didn’t make meals for anyone or do laundry for almost two weeks (my trip was a bit longer than the usual Momentum Women’s trip because Bryan and I went early to visit his brother and our sister-in-law and nieces. Then he went home to take care of the kids!) Under similar conditions, I might have enjoyed as profound an experience in Duluth, Minnesota, but there is no denying the extraordinary atmosphere in Israel, even during times of danger. Perhaps especially during times of danger. And frankly, no place feels safe anymore. I refuse to stop living in the meantime!
This particular excursion was organized by The Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project (JWRP) now called Momentum. JWRP makes everything other than the plane ticket free, though you have to apply. (You can do that here if your city hosts a trip.) I cannot recommend it strongly enough. You can start reading about why on my post at Kveller, but also feel free to email me and ask more specific questions. You can reach me at ninabadzinblog@gmail.com.
Oh! And Kveller used several of the pictures I submitted. I don’t often post pictures on my blog, so it’s a rare “montage” of sweaty pictures of me. Enjoy! 😉
