I have a writing success story to report!
If we’re friends on Facebook, you’ve seen me posting pictures of the challah baking classes I’ve been hosting at my house for the past year and a half. I only meant to host ONE class, but the story of how I ended up hosting 18 classes is a discussion I wanted to save for a special place. I knew that the idea of finding meaning in ritual in such a secular age had relevance beyond the Jewish writing publications where I normally submit. This is all to explain why I’m so thrilled and proud to say that the gorgeous multi-faith site, On Being, which started as a Minnesota Public Radio project, accepted the piece and posted it yesterday. The pictures are rather strange stock photos they chose to use, but the story is all MINE!)
A side note worthy of mention is that I first sent the piece to my “reach” Jewish publication where I still have never had a piece accepted. But getting into the more universally read On Being was actually a bigger deal (to me) so I’m filing this under the category of “you never know” and “how to spin a rejection into an opportunity.”
I hope you’ll join me at On Being to read about this special time in my life when over 80 women baked challah in my kitchen over the course of a year and a half. And while you’re on the site, stay a while. Lots of good pieces there.
Thank you, dear friends and readers. Your support means so much.
