Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer

DO

I’m watching/streaming a lot less television these days, but I did enjoy Sneaky Pete on Amazon over the summer. (And I’m waiting anxiously for the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!)

Here’s how to sit in a chair. Thank you, NPR!

Thanks to my friend, Libby, and my cousin, Sonia, I finally found a hair contraption that comes close to giving me that blow-out look. It’s basically a brush on the end of hairdryer that you can use with wet hair. Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer. I’m proud of my handiwork in the second photo below!

LISTEN

Small Fry by Lisa Brennan-Jobs is an excellent memoir by Steve Jobs’s eldest child. Their relationship and history was very complicated. As a reader, I appreciated the story she told as well as the writing she used to tell it. I did the audio version and it was so good! I highly recommend reading or listening to this one.

READ

Off the Clock by Laura Vanderkam: I’ve been listening to Vanderkam on various podcasts and I like her approach to how we spend our time. In Off the Clock, she forces the reader to face ways in which we have more leisure time than we like to acknowledge and more time to spend with family and friends than we may be ready to admit. How we choose to spend all that extra time is a different matter. Scrolling through Facebook and Instagram adds up to a TON of time. Streaming episode after episode adds up to a ton of time. She makes no judgements, but asks the reader to at least see those activities and the time they take as choices about our time. Many of us have more choices about our time than we like to claim.

I’m simultaneously on book #33, #35, and #36. (#33 is The Dinner List; #35 is The Dreamers, #34 was Small Fry, mentioned above, and #36 is Girl, Wash Your Face.) The full list is always kept up to date here, where I write a few sentences about each one.

  1. I do all of those things when I sit in a chair! I have a bad back and slouching makes it worse. I sit with a pillow or rolled up towel behind me all the time, and if I’m in a restaurant where that isn’t an option, I put my purse behind me.

I will check out the hairdryer – sounds promising! And I’ve been meaning to tell you that I picked Eternal Life as my book club’s pic based on your review, and it was a hit!

  2. I LOVE that blowdryer. I’ve been using it for over a year now and it’s one of my most beloved items. We can never be apart!

VERY anxious to read Small Fry. I read a New York Times story on it last week, so thanks for the reminder.

Also, thanks for the friendship advice. I totally agree that life is too short for negative friendships. Amen. Happy October!

  3. I saw Lisa interviewed on her book tour and felt bad for her – because apparently Jobs’ widow and children are coming out and saying the Steve she describes is not the one they “knew and loved.” I read Steve Jobs biography (that he supported and did author interviews for) and that book very much aligns with what Lisa discussed in her interview. She got a raw deal.

I liked Girl Wash Your Face, which surprised me. I have the Dinner List in my to-read pile. I haven’t been watching much TV either, just This is Us and Murphy Brown. I’ve been reading a lot. Just finished Nore Ephron’s I Feel Bad About My Neck. Best book I’ve read in a long time. Listening to Summer Wives by Beatriz Williams, and reading Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan.
