DO

#1. MAKE SOUP!

Emily, who runs the site Emily’s Fresh Kitchen, is a wonderful and lovely woman I know from ModernWell, the place in Minneapolis where I co-work and where I teach my writing classes. I often see her recipes and think, “I should really try that” because the ingredients are almost always simple and sound delicious prepared together. I finally made one of her soups two weeks ago—the White Bean and Broccoli Soup—and it was so good I made it again last week. It’s very healthy, so I can’t promise that a mac & cheese kid will go for it. (The color alone was a big no for my kids, but they’re not exactly adventurous eaters). The pureed white beans gave it a creamy finish and a more filling quality without any dairy. Though I, of course, added some parmesan, which Emily also gives as an option.

#2. SEND ME AN ANONYMOUS FRIENDSHIP ADVICE QUESTION

I posted three questions since starting the new site.

LISTEN

I LOVE the podcast Hyperbole! I’ve been a fan since their first episode. And guess what!? I’m going to be a guest on Hyperbole soon! I’m SO excited. (And nervous!)

#1. A man who tragically lost his wife when she was 33 gives priceless advice on how to help someone who has suffered a loss or experienced a trauma.

#2. Two shows I love–Russian Doll and The Good Place. “Russian Doll and The Good Place Want Us to Be Better”

#3. Are these bad habits creeping into your writing? Benjamin Dreyer, vice president, executive managing editor and copy chief of Random House, has been making the rounds to support his book, Dreyer’s English. I plan to read the book soon, but in the meantime, I’m loving the articles.

  1. I’m excited to try the white bean and broccoli soup! I haven’t been listening to any podcasts lately but I will note Hyperbole… The last one I listened to was Believed and it was breathtaking.

  2. I have all of those soup ingredients in my kitchen right now – yay! And Russian Doll is on my to-watch list, so I appreciate your thumbs up. I’ve always loved The Good Place too.
