Four Weddings and a Funeral on Hulu

I’m LOVING the new Hulu series Four Weddings and a Funeral. It’s based on the 90s movie, but I hardly remember the movie and knowing about the movie is not necessary to enjoy the show.

Here’s what I like so much about this series:

  • It’s a classic romantic comedy, which I miss. (That’s my own fault for obsessing over Game of Thrones, Handmaid’s Tale, and other dark shows.)
  • Mindy Kaling is one of the writers.
  • The cast is fantastic! And that includes Nathalie Emmanuel, who famously played Missandei on Game of Thrones.
  • There’s a sweetness to the storylines.
  • I love the friendships at the center of it all. In fact, even though this show is focused on romance, I’d say friendship is an even bigger theme.
  • The London setting in fun.
  • Loving the clothes, too.
  • While there’s a blatant and almost unapologetic predicability about the plot, I’m somehow not as annoyed about it as I should be. There are enough unexpected little turns to keep me happy.
  • Back to the first bullet point: It’s very romantic!

What sweet and uplifting shows are you watching these days? I think I need a general break from the darkness.

  1. I need to watch 4 Weddings and a Funeral! I find Handmaid’s Tale and When They See Us (what I’m in middle of now) too dark to watch while I’m doing cardio at the gym. Thanks for the rec. (I’m also into Ozark right now but that’s something I watch with Dan after the kids go to bed. Very dark)

  2. Okay, so this isn’t really a break from the darkness, per say, but I’ve been watching The Americans on Amazon Prime and I really love it! Highly recommend. The way they portray the Russian Spies vs. FBI agents – all as real human beings with emotions & backstories & vulnerabilities… It’s great. There’s no “good” vs “bad” here. It’s way too complicated. Also, I love the sham-marriage-turns-true-love storyline for the main two characters (who are married in real life!).
