I am so thrilled to have a short essay on Brevity Magazine’s site! The work on Brevity is creative nonfiction focused on the process of writing nonfiction.
Over the past 7-8 years that Julie Burton and I have led writing groups at ModernWell, I’ve pulled essays from Brevity (among other places) for us to learn from as a class. So it’s extra fun to see my own words there.
The topic I explored was how facing my old journals and transcribing them (almost 20 years ago) became my greatest resource as a nonfiction writer. You can’t hide from your original, raw thoughts.
The full essay is here.
